What happens at Latinx Graduation?
The Latinx Graduation is a stole ceremony. Graduates will cross the stage with two honored guests, without whom the dream of getting to and graduating from Harvard would not have been realized. As you cross the stage, your name, degree, major and quote will be projected on screen. On stage, faculty or staff will hand the stole to the two honored guests who will place the stole on the graduate. In addition to the procession ceremonies, there will be one keynote speaker, two student speakers, and two MCs.
How do I register for the Latinx Graduation?
Registration is required. Please check out our registration page for details.
How do I know that if I am registered?
If you cannot remember whether you have registered or if you a question about whether your registration has been received, please contact us at HarvardLatinxGrad@gmail.com to confirm that your registration has been received.
Do I have to pay to be part of Latinx Graduation?
No. There is no fee.
Do my guests have to pay?
No. There is no fee for guests.
Is there a seating chart?
Yes. We will have every graduate and their two honored guests up front and seated in the order they will cross the stage by school. Seats will be marked with your name. Please stick to the seating order, as this will affect the order in which names are called and projected on the screen. Ushers will direct students to rise and line up in order. There is no seating arrangement for the rest of your guests. If your guests need accommodations please specify on the registration form.
When do we get our stoles?
You will get your stoles when you cross the stage. You are not expected to have your stoles prior to the graduation ceremony.
What if I want to wear my stole during a graduation ceremony that takes place before the Latinx grad? Is there a way I can pick up my stole before hand?
Yes! We encourage you to wear your stole at all ceremonies you’d like to wear it at. To receive your stole earlier, you will need to contact HarvardLatinxGrad@gmail.com.
Who are the Masters of Ceremony?
The MCs will be announced in the coming weeks.
Who is the keynote speaker?
The keynote speaker will be announced closer to the event.
Who are the student speakers?
We will have two student speakers at graduation. Please check out our Student Speaker Application if you are interested in applying to be a student speaker!
What is the role of faculty?
We have invited a number of faculty from across Harvard schools. Students from each school have chosen two faculty or staff members as distinguished guests who will be on stage when that school’s graduates are crossing. These distinguished faculty/staff will hand the stoles to the two honored guests crossing the stage with the graduates who will then place the stole on the graduate.
Who do we cross the stage with?
The two honored guests you choose to cross the stage with are entirely up to you. Some students will choose to cross with one or two parents, siblings, spouses, children, extended family, friends or mentors who have been instrumental in their success at Harvard and beyond. You may opt to not cross with anyone, to cross with only one person, or to cross with two people. There is no restriction as to whom you choose, but there is a maximum of 2.
What do I wear?
We encourage all graduates to wear their graduation regalia during the ceremony. They should be available for pick up beginning in mid-May at the Coop. Check your school’s commencement page for specific details on your school’s regalia pick-up schedule, as they may vary.
Will there be food?
Yes. We will have light appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks during the reception. Time of reception will be announced but is tentatively scheduled from 5:00pm – 6:00pm.
I’m not graduating, but can I volunteer?
Yes! As a student-run event, we would love to have more volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering at the graduation, please visit our volunteer page.
